FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Barbara L.SherfPHILADELPHIA, PA, USA -- December 22, 1995 -- The Institute for Scientific Information(r) (ISI) now offers Index Chemicus as a searchable database, allowing scientists to more easily keep on top of developments in the field of chemistry.
The Index Chemicus relational database provides electronic access to structures, bibliographic data, and concise summaries of articles from over 100 organic chemistry journals from around the world. It indexes more than 200,000 new organic compounds per year. Unlike other structure databases, it also includes English-language author abstracts.
"The increasing flood of scientific information makes it harder than ever to keep up with organic chemistry," noted Thomas Kelly, Vice President and General Manager of Chemical Products. "The Index Chemicus database selects important new compounds from over 100 organic chemistry journals. Monthly updates ensure that researchers have access to the latest results that they can't afford to miss."
Searchers can now access the database using the ISIS(tm) search and retrieval platform, giving them the ability to search on all structures, as well as related textual data stored in the ORACLE(r) relational database management system. Index Chemicus also:
Allows searching on a variety of indexes, so that the researcher can look up papers of interest by compound, institution, or keyword.
Notes activity reported for over 500 types of screens, allowing chemists to quickly find compounds with the bioactivities they are interested in.
Contains thousands of compounds and synthetic intermediates not found in any other database.
Index Chemicus is updated monthly, with data going back to 1993. The availability of Index Chemicus on ISIS and ORACLE is part of an ongoing expansion of the ISI Chemical Information Products Division. Other chemical information products include the Reaction Citation Index(tm), Current Chemical Reactions(r), The Chemistry Citation Index(r), and Current Contents(r)/Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences.
The Institute for Scientific Information has been publishing current awareness products, such as Current Contents(r), for more than thirty-five years. ISI also produces cited reference products such as the Science Citation Index(r). Document delivery from The Genuine Article is available with all of the research databases provided by ISI.
ISI is headquartered in Philadelphia and has offices throughout the world. For more information, visit ISI's home page on the World Wide Web at http://www.isinet.com; e-mail sales@isinet.com; or write, call, or fax one of the locations listed below:
