AntiBase 2000

by Chemical Concepts

A comprehensive database of over 24,000 natural compounds from micro-organisms and higher fungi.

Ever since antibiotics were discovered in the 1930's, researchers have been continually discovering unique and potentially useful products from micro-organisms and trying to determine their chemical structures. Modern techniques, including various types of spectroscopy, have made this process of isolation and structure determination easier. The result has been an explosion in the number of known compounds. Today, researchers need ready access to the best compilation of information about these compounds in order to make their work as efficient as possible. Timely results are critical. Without a database like AntiBase, a Natural Products chemist risks duplicating somebody else's work and wasting precious time.

Developed by Professor Laatsch of the University of Goettingen, AntiBase is a world class collection of information relevant to the identification of microbiological natural compounds conveniently stored in a database system. The datafields are rich and information retrieval is easy.

The data in AntiBase have been collected from the primary and secondary literature and then carefully checked and validated. AntiBase includes descriptive data (molecular formula and mass, elemental composition, CAS registry number); physico-chemical data (melting point, optical rotation); spectroscopic data (UV, 13C-NMR, IR and mass spectra); biological data (pharmacological activity, toxicity); information on origin and isolation and a summary of literature sources

A unique feature of AntiBase is the use of predicted 13C-NMR spectra for those compounds where no measured spectra are available. These spectra have been produced using the spectrum prediction program SpecInfo.

Searches based on structural, spectroscopic, physico-chemical and microbiological parameters can be performed using AntiBase running under compatible scientific databases like ISIS/Base and CS ChemFinder. And AntiBase gives you another essential advantage: your own data can be easily added to AntiBase, unlike in the case of CD-ROM-based databases.
